Christian Music That Ministers At "Heart Level"
Born and raised in
Lexington, KY, David began singing solos in his home church at the ripe
old age of 7. As a teenager, he sang with the Messengers
Quartet of Lexington’s Southland Christian Church and continued to
perform occasional solo work.
A temporary work
assignment in the late 1960’s sent him to California for a time. During
this period he sang at Audry Mier’s monthly “Singspiration”
concerts in northern California. This is where, on a warm Friday night
in July, he met a group of ‘high energy’ young fellows from southern
California. They invited him to join their recently formed group, The
Gospel Lads, and he sang with them until his California work assignment
was completed. Then, upon moving back to Kentucky, he rejoined the
Messengers for a brief period.
This is when he shared his vision for a singing ministry with close friend and fellow
Messenger, Joe Wright. Together they developed plans to launch a
brand new trio, The Gospel Couriers, who subsequently sang as a
full-time group for over 20 years. David’s professional singing career
began in the early 1970’s when he was recruited to join a leading mixed
group of that era, The Downings of Nashville, TN (‘71-‘72). After the
Downings he sang in full-time ministry with both the Couriers and Lads.
In recent years David has
become established as a solo artist appearing in various venues across
the U.S. and abroad; including, of course, churches (small rural to mega
metro), camp meetings, revivals, conventions, nursing homes, prisons, homeless
shelters, street ministries, chapel services, retreats, private events,
and radio/television. He has also appeared in Branson, MO. In
2006, he traveled to the nation of Nigeria to sing at a National
Pastor's & Leadership Conference. He still gets together,
occasionally with some of his old friends for a little quartet
singing. Venue size is never a consideration, only that God opens doors
of ministry opportunity and orders his steps accordingly.
Over the years David has
been involved in numerous recording projects, including group, choir and
solo. He has several solo projects currently available, including a Christmas CD.
David’s music
ministers at “heart level”, encouraging & uplifting Christians in
addition to dispensing God’s love and redeeming grace to those who need
and will receive it. His ministry operates under the name of Well Water
Ministries and is located in Lexington, KY, where he & his wife, Sheila,
live. Together they share both the joys and responsibilities of the
ministry. They have 4 grown daughters (all married) and 8 precious
grandchildren.
